One of the earliest tools used was a speaking trumpet in his hand. Fire chiefs directed their departments using these speaking trumpets to shout orders at the chaotic fire scene. Those fire departments lucky enough to have a hand pumper used the trumpets to call cadence for those manning the pumper. Over the years, the speaking trumpet has become a symbol for fire department leadership. Many fire departments use the trumpet on their badges and patches to designate leadership This print is one of four in The American Fireman series.

I am a photographer located in Western New York with 20 years experience. I got my start with my Grandfather's Minolta x-700 while at Boston University working in B&W film. Hours in the darkroom have been replaced with hours behind the computer screen after I made the switch to digital about ten years ago. This has given me the ability to more accurately portray the scene as I remember it. I predominately shoot nature, landscape and urban/cityscape photography, freezing a moment in time that will never happen again. Taking the time to capture these moments is one of the great pleasures in my life. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoyed creating them.
