Artist's Description

From the Jackstaff of the USS Croaker the First Navy Jack waves.

Gato Class submarine launched December 19, 1943. Commissioned April 21, 1944 at Electric Boat Company, Groton, CT. Converted December 11, 1953. Decommissioned December 20, 1971.

Built as part of the effort to assemble a major submarine force just prior to and after the U.S. entry into World War II, USS Croaker was sent to the Pacific to wage a war of attrition against Japans merchant marine and Navy. USS Croaker had 6 WWII pacific war patrols, was awarded 3 battle stars, and claimed 11 Japanese vessels including a cruiser, four tankers, two freighters, an ammunition ship, two escort craft, and a minesweeper.

Since 1988, Croaker has served as a museum ship at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park in Buffalo, New York.

In the distance Buffalo Main Lighthouse can be seen as the sun sets over the Buffalo Waterfront.

About Chris Bordeleau

Chris Bordeleau

I am a photographer located in Western New York with 20 years experience. I got my start with my Grandfather's Minolta x-700 while at Boston University working in B&W film. Hours in the darkroom have been replaced with hours behind the computer screen after I made the switch to digital about ten years ago. This has given me the ability to more accurately portray the scene as I remember it. I predominately shoot nature, landscape and urban/cityscape photography, freezing a moment in time that will never happen again. Taking the time to capture these moments is one of the great pleasures in my life. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoyed creating them. Outside of photography I rise my two daughters, Madeleine & Nicole...
