Oh WOW... simply STUNNING Image and capture Chris!

Chris Bordeleau replied:

thank you... these old grain mills almost look like medieval castles on the river. There are more of them and other angles so I plan to go back more this summer as time permits...

Artist's Description

Twilight on Buffalo River and one of its industrial relics.

Designed and built by local architect A. E. Baxter in three separate sections, construction began on the Cargill Superior Elevator in 1914 and was formally completed in 1925. When finished, the Cargill Superior Elevator was the largest elevators on the Buffalo River and was used as a transfer elevator for grain from a freighter to a rail car or vice versa.

Taken over by the multinational grain consortium Cargill in the 1930's, the facility operated for decades before the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway all but ended the need for grain transshipment the Elevator was built for. Briefly used as a long-term storage facility for export grain shipments to European markets, the facility was shut down by Cargill in the mid-1960's and remains inactive today.

About Chris Bordeleau

Chris Bordeleau

I am a photographer located in Western New York with 20 years experience. I got my start with my Grandfather's Minolta x-700 while at Boston University working in B&W film. Hours in the darkroom have been replaced with hours behind the computer screen after I made the switch to digital about ten years ago. This has given me the ability to more accurately portray the scene as I remember it. I predominately shoot nature, landscape and urban/cityscape photography, freezing a moment in time that will never happen again. Taking the time to capture these moments is one of the great pleasures in my life. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoyed creating them. Outside of photography I rise my two daughters, Madeleine & Nicole...
